Former South African Minister Pravin Gordhan Has Passed Away

Johannesburg – Pravin Gordhan, a former minister of public enterprises and anti-apartheid crusader, passed away in a sanatorium at the age of 75.

He was previously hospitalized to the health center this week. Gordhan held the positions of Minister of Public Enterprises, Cooperative Governance, and Traditional Affairs, Gordhan also held the position of SARS commissioner for ten years. He left the government on May 29, following the elections.

A family statement claims that Gordhan died quietly in the hospital, encircled by his loved ones.

“After his retirement, Minister Gordhan fought a short, courageous battle with cancer,” the statement continued. His children Anisha and Priyesha, as well as his wife Vanitha, survive him. The Gordhan family asks that at this trying time of bereavement, their privacy be respected. Plans for the funeral will be revealed when they are ready.
